Tree sap as a new generation of natural extraction medium

How plant saps could help rethink cosmetic extraction by combining naturality, performance and eco-design.

Tree sap is more than a symbol of vitality. In the context of cosmetic ingredient development, it can also be viewed as a natural extraction medium with a unique composition of sugars, organic acids, minerals and plant-derived molecules.

For natural cosmetic actives, the question is no longer only what we extract, but also how we extract it. Conventional solvents such as water, ethanol or glycols remain widely used, but the industry is increasingly looking for extraction systems that better reflect the values of eco-design, naturality and biological relevance.

Plant saps open an interesting perspective. They are naturally aqueous, renewable and biologically meaningful. When combined with technologies such as ultrasound-assisted extraction, they may help improve extraction efficiency while supporting a more responsible positioning.

This approach does not replace scientific validation. Each extract must still be characterized, tested and documented. But it illustrates a broader shift in cosmetic innovation: nature is no longer only the source of active molecules. It can also inspire the process itself.
